4 Tips to Keeping it All Together as a Working Farm Momma

From being a mom, a farmer, a full-time employee, a wife, a daughter, a sister and so on, many people ask me “How do you do it all? You seem to always have it together.” So here I am, finally writing it all down. Giving you the 4 tips of how I keep it all together.

Lean in real close. It’s a well-kept secret among the best of us. Are you ready? I don’t!

Yep, you read that right. I do not have it all together. I don’t have it all figured out. I promise I am just as lost as the rest of you moms out there. So here are my 4 tips to help people think you have it all together.

            1. Fake it until you make it. There are many days, okay almost all days, that I just keep putting one foot in front of the other. I just go through my day, not always thinking of what just happened or what might happen next. I have an appointment to go to, but my kids are throwing a fit – well they get loaded in the car and we keep going. It’s like being a shark, you must keep moving or you become dead in the water.

            2. Ask for help.  Oh boy, this is one thing that has taken me a long time to master and I’m still working on this skill. As a mom, you think that you have to do it all yourself. You have to sacrifice yourself, your time, your goals to have a family. You don’t, but to make it work you have to ask for help. It could be your friends, neighbors, family. It doesn’t matter, but if you build a village it will make keeping it all together easier.

            3. Find a way to take notes. Man oh man do my to-do list items or important things to remember pop up in my brain at the most inconvenient times. So here are a few quick ways I keep lists going before I can round them all up at night before going to bed:

  • Text yourself
  • Keep paper in the car
  • Dry erase boards on the fridge
  • Schedule text messages
  • A bath crayon in the shower

           4. Be confident. Part of the reason I likely look like I have it all together is because I’m confident that I am doing the best I can at that point in time. Will it be the right decision in 2 minutes, 2 day, 2 months, 2 years? I don’t know, but I do know that what I chose to do at that point in time is the best for me and my family at that point. Confidence helps put the vibes out there that you have it all together and know what you’re doing.

Whatever your trick is, I know you can do this. We are all in the same pond treading water while we figure it out. You are an amazing mom, wife, daughter, etc. I promise!
