A Letter to my Child Who is Always on Her Own Schedule

Her name is Anna. She is my second child. If any of you have at least children or are a middle child yourself you know exactly what I’m referring to in this letter.

Dear Anna,

I hope one day you read this and realize you were always meant for greatness, but on your terms! Since I was pregnant with you, you were always a little over the top and on your own schedule. You were my most complicated pregnancy, ending up in bed for the entire last month of it just for you to thankfully come out 10 days early despite the many warnings from your nurses.

You were “small” for your age so we had many weight checks and eventually, and on your own schedule, you were cleared of any extra checkups.

As you grew up, you knew early on the “technically” tactic of many wise women. You could always talk your way out of anything or talk yourself into things like sleepovers with friends at our house, going to Grammy’s or whatever else you wanted to do.

You also had your own sense of style once you could dress yourself. You continuously had to change outfits multiple times a day because your mood for that moment needed a new one. You would wear shoes on the wrong feet, pants backwards, shirts inside out – I mean the whole 9 yards.

But as I continued to watch you grow I realized this is you, unapologetic, you either like me or you don’t you. You had learned hard life lesson earlier than I ever had. And as a parent, I’m trying my hardest not to tame that wild side of you. Boy is that hard! I’m a very buttoned up kind of person (an oldest child) and to let you be on your own schedule with your own ideas is hard. But I truly never want you to lose that spunk, that I don’t care mentality, that confidence in yourself and everything else. It will take you so far in life and no matter where you land, I will always be so proud of you ❤️

Love,

Your momma

I’m Amber

Welcome to Caring for Calves and Kids. I’m a 5th generation dairy farmer farming with my parents and husband while trying to raise 3 kids. Life is crazy, messy and so much fun! It’s hard to be a mom and sometimes even harder when you farm. So to ensure no one else feels alone I’m sharing my stories. Enjoy!
